Page builders are a tribal topic online. On the ground it is simpler: I have shipped production sites in all three, and the choice usually comes down to four questions.
Which builder is fastest?
Bricks produces the leanest HTML and CSS of the three, and it shows up in the numbers. Recent Bricks builds like Talent Cleaning (98 desktop, 96 mobile) and White Stripes (100 desktop, 94 mobile) pass Core Web Vitals comfortably. Elementor is heavier but tunable; Fence Decks and More lands at 98 desktop and 89 mobile once trimmed. Divi ships the most front-end weight, so its mobile scores realistically sit in the 60s to 80s depending on how image-heavy the design is: Nomad Fatimata is 96 desktop but 69 mobile.
None of that is a dealbreaker. It just means a Divi site needs more care on image sizing and a Bricks site starts closer to the finish line. If raw speed is the whole point, a custom theme beats all three.
Which is easiest to edit yourself?
For routine edits, changing text, swapping images, adding blog posts, all three are fine once set up with global styles and reusable sections. Elementor has the shallowest learning curve if you ever want to restructure a page yourself, and by far the most tutorials online. Bricks assumes a bit more comfort with layout structure. Divi’s visual editor is friendly but its layouts are stored as Divi shortcodes, which matters if you leave later.
What does each cost to run?
Elementor’s pro widgets and theme builder need either an Elementor Pro licence or the Crocoblock plugin set, renewed yearly. Bricks includes its equivalent in the core licence. Divi is a yearly or lifetime licence. On my builds I provide a licence key for your site regardless, so this is a renewal cost, not a surprise.
What about the ecosystem and templates?
Elementor has the largest third-party add-on market and template library, which speeds up standard pages. Bricks has a smaller but fast-growing ecosystem and a strong community around performance. Divi’s own layout packs are extensive and its theme builder covers headers, footers, archives and single templates well.
So which should you choose?
- Local or small business marketing site, speed matters: Bricks.
- You want to confidently edit and extend it yourself, big ecosystem: Elementor.
- Content-heavy site, you want built-in A/B testing and a mature theme builder: Divi.
- Performance is the entire brief, or you have unusual requirements: a custom build.
Can you switch builders later?
Yes, but it is a rebuild, not a migration, because each one stores layouts differently. Content, design intent and URLs carry over, and 301 redirects keep your rankings. It is worth doing only when a site is genuinely slow and the cheaper fixes have not moved the needle.
